Gravel Pit Golf Course -

Excitement rose as I approached the Gravel Pit Golf Course in Brainerd, Minnesota. Being created in 2021, and formally opening in 2022, I was anxious to learn more about this creative golfing location. This golf course, which is located on the premises of a former gravel pit; served as proof that the owner Chuck and his team brought creativity. The vintage bulldozer parked at the entrance provided an indication as to the history of the course and set the stage for the adventure that lay ahead of me. As I stepped out of my car, I couldn’t help but look at the clubhouse made entirely of shipping containers located atop the hill overlooking the whole course. Chuck even left the stickers on the containers to emphasize the originality and used this to add to the style and aesthetic of the atmosphere when relaxing off the course. By no means am I an experienced golfer, but I knew it was certain that playing the Gravel Pit Golf Course would be unforgettable.

With thirteen par three holes, the Gravel Pit Golf Course utilizes the gravel pits natural features. Chuck has created a course that challenges players’ short game while providing a stunning and enjoyable golfing experience, from elevated tee boxes to well-placed bunkers. The second hole at Gravel Pit Golf Course was the most memorable. As I walked up to take the flag out, something caught my eye in the pond that was just before the green. Yes, I might have shanked my ball short of the green into the water hazard but it led me to learn that it had been stocked with a variety of trout, ranging in size from 12 to 22 inches. I thought that was a cool twist!

My scorecard might say otherwise but I had a blast continuing my experience and my attempt to challenge the well designed holes. As I came to the end of the thirteenth hole, I spotted an area which looked to be a new hole under renovation. When we questioned Chuck about this area, he revealed his plans to expand the course in the summer of 2023 and add an extra 10.5 holes. This expansion has a super creative half hole—a 50-yard putter only hole. I have golfed many courses in the Brainerd Lakes Area and have never heard of this before, so I have to give credit to their team for this awesome idea. I know we have all thought of letting our anger out by smashing a ball with our putter off the tee and with this “putter only” hole being the last one of the day, our dreams have finally come true. With Chuck’s dedication to consistently improving the experience at the Gravel Pit Golf Course, it is clear that everyone will always have something new to look forward to and enjoy.

Everyone looking for an unforgettable outdoor experience will without a doubt be fascinated by the Gravel Pit Golf Course. My crew found it to be an incomparable destination because of its origins, unique design, and future expansion. With the unmatched creativity and attraction, this hidden treasure is a must-go golfing destination!
