13th Annual Cardboard Boat Races -
Prepare for the summer’s wackiest and wettest event! August 12th is a day to gather your childhood imaginations and set sail for the 13th Annual Cardboard Boat Races. This event, which is sponsored by Moonlite Bay Family Restaurant & Bar and complemented by Central Package & Display, promises a day of laughter and cardboard wonders.
You might be asking yourself what makes these boat races so unique. Imagine a boat that is totally constructed of cardboard and joined together with the use of Elmer’s glue. You heard that right, glue and cardboard! The goal is to build a boat entirely of these basic supplies that will withstand the water and other challenges of the race.
On race day, registration is between 10:30am and 12:00pm. Therefore, be sure to arrive earlier to get your spot in the famous race of the boxes. All paddlers will gather for a meeting at 12:45 pm about the course rules, so paddlers pay attention, as it could be the difference between floating to victory or getting stuck in some cardboard chaos.
1:00pm will start you with the Kids Race, which is for the ages 12 and under. Get ready to see the most imaginative boats the children create. From the cardboard rocket ships, flying unicorns and pirate ships, these fun creations will fill the starting line with awesomeness. Don’t forget that kids are competitive and crazy when it comes to racing, so parents - you’ll want to grab your cameras!
Now it’s time for the adults to display their boat building strategies once the kids have had their turn in the cardboard spotlight. The Adult Race begins at 2:00pm, welcoming cardboard engineering wonders. The creativity knows no bounds, from narrow speed boats to strangely looking rafts that were supposed to be a boat. Hoping their creations will glide like swans and not sink like a potato, this will be a comedy-filled experience. Don’t worry if you lack the necessary materials but are feeling creative!
