DINING REVIEW

Wings Airport Cafe -

This isn’t in-flight food, nor is it a chain restaurant at an airport. This is home-style cooking in the heartland waiting for your flight to arrive. With the motto, “Making friends one plate at a time” - it’s a meeting place for the locals to converse over a cup of coffee or morning breakfast. Pilots from all over the state randomly call each other saying, “See you for lunch in Brainerd” as they board their private aircraft and fly to Wings Cafe for the food!

With the windows facing north toward the runways, you find yourself glancing between your menu and the occasional inbound or outbound aircraft. The wide plains of the airport have a calming effect, which eliminates the bustle of in-town dining. Looking at the menu closely, you’ll realize that a faint image of aeronautical charts from around the state, with grid coordinates and radio frequencies is in your hands - didn’t see that coming did you?

Not only is this a hot spot for many, due to location and how big their menu is… They also offer catering for those who rent the conference room for business meetings and offer private jet catering for those, “Touch and Go’s” which takes the old adage “Dine and Dash” to a whole new level. Somewhere between 2,000 and 10,000 feet in altitude to be exact. Just imagine being in flight, enjoying a “Country fried beef cutlet served with hashbrowns, eggs any style, sausage gravy and toast.” You’ve just elevated your status.

The menus are larger than most, so they can fit the vast options that cover things like; 7 different bakery goods, 8 options on the Kids/Senior menu and 19 options on the Breakfast menu - with 24 additional sides to choose from. By the way, that’s just the first two pages. Next come 24 more options of Burgers, Melts, and sandwiches with 12 sides to select from. They also offer wraps, soups, salads and deserts. But it was by popular demand that they now offer a dinner menu with 8 additional items and 5 appetizers. All which are washed down with the beverage of your choice, ranging from kids beverages to adult beverages - in case you need to shave off those flight jitters.

Whether you’re enjoying the in-house Corned Beef hash or one of their “top of the line” Burgers, this is available 7 days a week from 5:30am - 7:00pm. If you need a Gluten Free meal or bread - just ask. They take care of each person they serve like family and even have a Frequent Flyer Card for those regulars who get a discount after enough visits. To get more information or if you want to see the menu, check out www.wingsairportcafe.com or just stop in. You’ll find yourself becoming a ‘Regular’ too!
