Boulder Tap House -
When we hear the term boulder, we think of big. Same with the word taphouse, we think of a line of beer taps. But it’s not just about all the taps and different brews. Brainerd Live Magazine found Boulder Tap House in Baxter has a food menu that is changing their own rules in the restaurant industry. Elevating to the “Go Big or Go Home'' mantra, they are stackin’ the deck with the biggest burger I have ever seen - it’s epic! Its official name is seriously called the Epic Burger and there’s a reason why. If you read this next description in a single breath, you may be able to take on this monstrosity, so here we go…
“It’s a triple butter grind seasoned burger, with four slices of bacon, Pabst onions, smashed tater tots, cheese curds, beer battered fries, fried pickles and triple American cheese drizzled with BBQ mayo all on a grilled bun. Served with one pound of beer battered fries on the side.”
*Deep breath*
Mind you this is all stacked on top of one another to the point they need to build it in stages. Once the construction phase is complete, it’s time for transport. As it approaches the table, it seems to be getting bigger as your eyes are getting wider. How you navigate its destruction is on you. Don’t forget that there are many other things on the menu, like unique appetizers and plenty of other foods for various palate’s. The only way to leave hungry is because you never ordered food to begin with.
I wasn’t kidding when I said they are going big. I once ordered the cheese curds with the usual expectation of what a curd is. Wrong! The moment the ‘Appetizer’ arrived, I wondered how I was going to have room for the actual meal I ordered. These things were HUGE! I’m either going Neanderthal on these or I'm going to eat them in a civilized manner with a knife and fork. Luckily for my wife’s honor, I chose the latter.
They have a couple other menu items that are large, but not to worry. Most portions are within the average person's filling range. I say most because of how many options they have in each of the following categories: Appetizers, soups and salads, tacos and bowls, wings and sauces, sandwiches and sides (which accent any order). Now we can finally get to the burgers. There’s seven specialty burgers, five butter grind burgers, four bacon grind burgers and finally for the more traditional person… Build your own. And when I say traditional - baby I mean the good ol’ fashioned American Classic with a shake! That is almost a 100 year old tradition.
This week, dining at Boulder Tap House will have you literally… Going big and then getting home before you succumb to the nap, universally called - the Food Coma.
