Dunmires's Steak Bites -

Ever look at a picture where your tastebuds instantly activate? Having never tasted it, your brain already sent the signals and your mouth watered in anticipation!

When it comes to steak bites, I enjoy the unique ways they are prepared among various restaurants. I’ve had them smothered in gravy, broth, grilled and more. Stopping in at Dunmire’s Bar and Grill on Hwy 210, I simply saw them on the menu and wanted to try them. When they arrived at the table, I had my usual expectations until the first bite and that’s when it happened… The flavor exceeded the word “delicious” and put my brain on pause. I slowly looked back down at the plate - It was a masterpiece.

I looked over at my wife and blurted out, “I need to order another plate” knowing that if she tried one - I wasn’t getting them all. I like sharing and usually do, but my taste buds themselves had somehow developed greed. I asked the server for a menu during our meal, just so I could see what was causing my brain to glitch. Here’s the description on the menu…

“Choice sirloin tips dusted with Cajun seasoning and sautéed. Finished with a drizzle of house-made bacon Gorgonzola cheese sauce”

This is where I properly use the phrase “My compliments to the chef” since its flavor was accented by its presentation. A mini mountain of onion tanglers rise from the center of the plate as these meat boulders surround it, with a light shower of seasoning and hailstones of bacon and cheese melting over them. Alright, enough with the geography and weather report, because my to-go order is almost ready upon finishing the same thing I’m eating.

I have tried many things on the menu here, but this was worthy of its own promotional piece. I am always on the hunt for “The One” - where no matter what restaurant you go to, the server see’s you walk through the door and could put the order in before you sit down because you always order the same thing. We each hold our individual ‘hotspots’ where we go for our favorite burger, or another for our favorite shrimp, but this is where I have found (to date), the location in the Brainerd Lakes Area for Steak Bites!

The staff and their smiles brighten your day with quick conversations. The location is nestled on the edge of the treeline, yet sits on the roadside for easy access. No matter the season, you could arrive by ATV, diirt bike, snowmobile or a big rig. I’ve had fun taking the four-wheeler on adventures and stopped in for a bite to eat before going home. Both the inside and outside give you a little taste of that ‘Old Western’ feel, while the modern sand games of volleyball and bag tournaments keep you entertained. Enjoy live bands, raffles and more… but at least make a stop for the Steak Bites!
