Woodlore Cider -

Maybe it was the tranquility of the acoustic indie music playing in the background or the joyful laughter flowing from the table of people, playing board games across the room. Either way, I was not expecting to be engulfed by the serene ambiance (similar to that of a winery), when I first took my seat at Woodlore Cider Brewery. But that crisp zing, when the flight of cider brews prickled my tongue, felt indulgent as they immersed my tastebuds with every sip.

This charming local gem opened its doors to the public in August 2022. Owner Josh Gazelka and his wife Cami have undoubtedly filled the local void for a cidery in the Brainerd Lakes Area. The relaxing, airy space offers enough seating for 50-60 people, including the down-home comfort of lounge seating beside a fireplace (almost like a scene from the hit show “Friends”). Looking around, I noticed how the spacious back room offers an exceptional area, capable of hosting an event, party, or large group. Since opening last August, they have brought the thrill of modernity to Woodlore, with a plethora of events such as; poker night, women’s night, painting workshops, parties, and more!

With the selection of 8 different taps, they had satisfaction in mind for everyone. Now it is just a matter of finding the flavor of your choice! Our easy-going, cheerful server “Caleb” poured a medley of ciders into two flights for tasting. One after the other, I enjoyed the awakening tastes of Pineapple, Pear-Ginger, Cranberry, Original, Hopped, Dry, and lastly, Rhubarb - each one having its own mouth-watering personality.

An added bonus? They all have zero added sugars! So, if you’re already comparing it to the Angry Orchards of the cider world, think again. These bad boys will not only leave your stomach happier, but they raise the bar of cider altogether. The urge to gently swirl it in the glass like a fine wine will leave you feeling almost debonair.

We, unfortunately, missed the opportunity this time around to enjoy their sold-out flavor “Wildflower.” Regardless, after sampling each unique flavor, I came to the conclusion that Hopped was my favorite. Mostly on account of the rich zing, it engulfed my mouth with. Every taste bud felt the smooth robustness of its unique flavor.

It was thrilling to learn that one could also enjoy a Woodlore Cider while eating out at certain local restaurants, like the favored Notch 8. With that being said, I will not be shying away this summer from enjoying this crisp, cold cider at the brewery, while under the elegance of their luminescent patio lights. As you enjoy all that the Lakes Area has to offer, this is a must for any upcoming Cider Connoisseur. Enjoy!
